Jurgen Klopp says coming back to lead Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who left Anfield in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback remains something that could happen. Klopp, after a transformative nine-season tenure which brought continental glory and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, now holds roles as head of global soccer for Red Bull and as an advisor for the DFL.
Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
The club claimed the league title under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would embrace the idea of his potential comeback. In a wide-ranging interview, he told the podcast host: “I stated I refuse to lead any other side on English soil. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...yeah. It's plausible.”
“At 58 years old, which suggests the choice could be mine later on, I don’t know. Is a decision required immediately? In that case, I'd stay away. Fortunately, no such pressure exists. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Pressed on what circumstances would need to occur to bring him back to the dugout, he confessed he feels no immediate pull for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing in the rain for two-and-a-half or three hours; I don’t miss going to press conferences multiple times weekly or doing numerous chats weekly.
“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, however, dining out with the team enjoying conversation, that’s nice. We won a lot of games thus frequently great spirits at the club. I can still hear the captain's chuckle ringing in my ears to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise for his successor, crediting him due to the changes that took the title last campaign. They've been defeated four consecutive matches in every contest after a summer spending spree, but he rubbished the notion it could be a slump.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, critics will regret if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. The French striker, excellent performer. It’s a really good thoughtfully assembled roster. Fans shouldn't fret about Liverpool, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition in 2020, along with the consequences at the club. The Portugal international was killed in a road accident with his brother in July.
“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? It’s not about his on-field talent, his personality mattered. I can’t imagine the squad absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss on this topic. A profound tragedy for all the boys as well. Nobody at Liverpool would cite it as an excuse yet it's the reality. Being in that space where he was omnipresent. Dealing with that on a personal level is difficult. Unbearable.”
