Homages Pour In for the Reiners as Medical Examiner's Findings Are Sealed.
More than two weeks subsequent to the heartbreaking passing of esteemed filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, the entertainment community continue to honor the couple.
‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Writing on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, explained he finally felt prepared to share openly about his profound loss.
"Adequate time has gone by that I can finally express my sorrow into words," posted Elwes, noting that his initial encounter with Reiner left him smitten. "Once we started sharing more moments together I realized this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor posted behind-the-scenes footage from the film, remarking that he could not remember "one day without laughter".
"This story is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Values that Rob held dear. This is one of the many reasons he was the ideal person to guide it," Elwes wrote.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, noting: "Asserting that they were a incredible duo would be an understatement. My heart still aches every time I think of you." He ended with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Colleague and Comrade
In a separate piece, revered director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the main character.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked wonderfully with everyone, and he grasped the emotional dilemma of his character," Scorsese added.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Restricted
Recently, a Los Angeles judge decided to bar the release of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, following a petition from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A legal directive placed a security hold on the cases to limit the public release of "related notes, notes, reports or photos" pertaining to the ongoing investigation.
The Medical Examiner's office had earlier stated their deaths were the outcome of foul play, with a record noting the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
Response and Criticism
In the wake of the deaths, public figures expressed divergent responses.
Former President Donald Trump commented on the matter, making controversial remarks that were met with immediate backlash by numerous commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan lent his criticism to the critics last week. Talking on his podcast, Rogan labeled the remarks as "disturbing" and suggested they showed a worrisome deficiency of sympathy.
Rogan ended by proposing that an adviser ought to have acted when the decision to comment on the death was made.
