The celebrated UK star Dame Helen, already holder of an Oscar statuette, four Baftas, three Golden Globes, five Emmys, plus a Tony, is set to add another esteemed prize to her trophy case: the Cecil B. DeMille Golden Globe lifetime achievement award.

Award Event

Mirren, 80, who was honored as a dame back in 2003 and made a Bafta fellow back in 2014, will receive the accolade in a ceremony January 8, three days before the primary Globes ceremony occur, during a program described by the Golden Globes as the Golden Eve event.

Also part of the event will be the presentation of the Globes’ Carol Burnett award for TV work, the recipient of which is still to be revealed. Previous recipients featured Viola Davis along with Ted Danson.

“Mirren stands as a force of nature, and her career is truly exceptional,” said the organization’s president, the Globes’ leader. “Her brilliant portrayals and dedication to acting persistently influence generations of artists and fans too. It’s a tremendous privilege to award her the Cecil B DeMille award.”

Career Highlights

Mirren gained prominence in the 1970s through significant parts on stage in the West End of London and with the Royal Shakespeare Company as well as in movies such as O Lucky Man!, Caligula and The Long Good Friday.

During the nineties, her starring role in the investigative show Prime Suspect broadened her fanbase further. Other key films feature Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park and Calendar Girls.

She received an Oscar for her portrayal as Queen Elizabeth II in the cinematic work The Queen, a character she reprised in 2013 for The Audience, Peter Morgan’s play concerning the sessions involving the monarch and premier Margaret Thatcher, a performance for which she earned a Tony during 2015.

Latest Works and Future Roles

• Later-career movies feature Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda & Barbie, for which she provided narration.
• Mirren’s turn in the Netflix adaptation for The Thursday Murder Club has also been praised and honors speculation is increasing regarding her role as a terminally ill matriarch in the film by Kate Winslet initial directorial project, Goodbye June.
• Upcoming, audiences will see Mirren in the role of Patricia Highsmith in Corbijn’s dramatic film, Switzerland.

Golden Globe nominations will be declared December 8, including the film by Paul Thomas Anderson One Battle After Another, Zhao’s Hamnet and Coogler’s Sinners expected to feature heavily.
