Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Loss
Arne Slot admitted that it was understandable for questions to be raised about his future following a further heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the team's worst run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received plenty of backing from above,” Slot commented.
“It's important to turn it around and get a victory naturally but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “Through standard conversations we have I perceive the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Familiar Problems and Squad Response
Slot expressed regret over recurring failings from his squad in their European loss, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a period like this with outcomes this poor.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we'll continue to battle.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to the top, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
