A Ton of Anime Updates Landed Over the Festive Season
The Yuletide season offer a multitude of pastimes far superior than catching up on the updates: discovering surprises, indulging in delicious food, and harnessing deep breathing to avoid arguing with loved ones. It is wished you were able to accomplish all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous thrilling announcements emerged over the festive period, and if you didn't see some of them, here is a roundup of the juiciest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (By 2027)
Truly the most shocking piece of news, the notorious controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to deter more episodes. The show will come back with a subsequent part in 2027—such a distant date they might as well have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be at the helm. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the beginning, which is seen as a positive development. Yet, the promotional image for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This suggests that, nowadays, they must be mocking the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a name for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the fair treatment of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had never worked on an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a reduced workload, the series proved it hadn't lost the fans' support and goodwill, and now the community is overjoyed about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Will Get a Sequel Now in the Works
Kingdom is the top-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been going on for some time, and its sixth season was a further stellar entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been announced as in development, and it will almost certainly air in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
Another studio famous for the excellent quality of its projects, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the actual historical person of Fatima, an influential woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and intriguing visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Season Two
Shortly after the conclusion of episode 24, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be getting a sequel. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm premiere date has not been disclosed yet.
